Andrew Wegst - Executive Director
Andrew started his career in filmmaking over 30 years ago with an eye on environmental education. Since then, he has produced, directed, shot, written, or contributed to well over 150 hours of broadcast television educating audiences about the world around them. From small shows on making backyard habitats for native species in the U.S. to multi-million-dollar wildlife conservation series for leading Chinese streaming platforms, Andrew knows no boundaries in communicating vital conservation messages.
His latest series on the plight of sea turtles has garnered an astounding 40 million views in China. His 2016 work for PBS Nature earned him the national News and Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a film showcasing the fantastic abilities of hummingbirds. But it was his passion and dedication to the wild animals of Africa, and its local communities that propelled Andrew to found Maono Conservation Media.
Andrew’s firm commitment to local education and empowerment drives everything he does. His work has appeared on Discovery, PBS, Science Channel, HBO, TBS, YouKu, Amazon Prime Video, and many others. Andy has also mentored the next generation of filmmakers through his teaching position at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and as head film instructor at Maine Media Workshops Rockport College in Rockport, Maine.
